Make oral tissues part of the conversation
An oral cancer screening looks for changes in the mouth and surrounding tissues that may need follow-up. Tell us about a persistent sore, lump, unusual patch or other change.
What screening means
- Discussing relevant concerns and risk factors.
- Looking at oral tissues for visible changes.
- Explaining findings and next steps.
- Referral for further assessment when indicated.
Screening does not provide a diagnosis
A screening cannot confirm or rule out every cancer. If a change needs further investigation, a dentist or medical professional may need to assess it. Do not wait for a routine appointment to seek advice about a persistent concern.
